Nav 2015 è uno dei più importanti convegni internazionali tecnico-scientifici afferente il comparto del navale. Vedi info  su  Nav , giunto alla sua 18a edizione, è organizzato e gestito dall’A.Te.Na. l’associazione Italiana di Tecnica Navale.Molti dei nostri soci fanno capo anche a questa Associazione, che è l’omologa italiana del RINA ( Royal Institution of Naval Architects UK ) o della statunitense SNAME ( the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers ). Questa edizione del NAV , in contemporanea con l’EXPO 2015 , si svolge con la collaborazione del prestigioso Politecnico di Milano , nella sua nuova sede di Lecco . A margine della sezione prettamente dedicata al navale è stato organizzato un work shop orientato al mondo della nautica.

I temi che si svilupperanno in questa sessione aperta sono stati proposti e concordati da un gruppo di lavoro paritetico costituito da A.Te.Na. – Poli-MI – As.Pro.Na.Di. .

Andrea Vallicelli

Andrea Vallicelli architect, is full professor of Industrial Design at the Faculty of Architecture in Pescara, teaching also at the Master in Yacht Design at Politecnico of Milan University.He has carried out a wide project activity. In the nautical field, he has designed, from 1975 (with the A. Vallicelli & Co), around 170 yachts (between 22′ and 220′ size) made in Europe and America widely published on magazines all over the world. About 30 of these projects have become popular production boats for nautical industries like BLU SAIL (Rimini); COMAR (Forlì – Rome); De CESARI (Cervia); CANADOS (Ostia); D’ESTE (Fiumicino); MARCHI (Venice);SE.RI.GI (Monfalcone); VR Nautica (Bergamo); ISA (Ancona).In sport field he has designed several yachts, among which: Ziggurat (1975); Brava (1979 New York – 1986 Limington); Filo da Torcere (1979); Azzurra (America’s Cup 1983, 1987); Enterprise (Cherbourg 1984); Springbok (1985 California); Sirena (1986 Instanbul) Stradivaria (1992); Orsa Maggiore (1994 for the Italian Navy cadets training); Riviera di Rimini(1996) Virtuelle (2000) He has received several prizes and awards and a review of his works has been exhibited at the Contemporary Art pavilion of Milan (PAC) within the exhibition E’ Design (1983); at the exhibition Car & yacht Designer of the Birdhouse Project in Osaka (Japan 2000); at the PMI Exhibition in Canton (China 2006); at the Exhibition Sport Design in Creative Interaction in Jinan (Shandong, China 2008). ABSTRACT Yacht’s evolution in the America’s Cup, from the displacement boats to the foils. The influence on recreational yachts industry. The Hundred Guinea Cup, later named America’s Cup, was offered as a prize by the British in 1851, while at the same time the London Great Exhibition was under course. This coincidence gave the race a significance that went beyond the simple sports match, assuming the tone of a race between the technological knowledge of the countries represented by the racing yachts. Since then, the success key in the challenge has always been the ability to manage the varied environment of this competition, in which the confrontation between sailors, financial resources, technologies, design ingeniousness and legal cunning are involved. Between 1851 and 2013 thirty four challenges were held, involving different countries and different of boat’s kinds. Over more than a century and a half many things have changed: the scene of racing rules, boats, materials, technologies. The most striking aspects of the recent changes are the increased internationalization of the teams and above all the adoption of a new type of boats (catamarans with foils and rigid wings instead of sails) which resemble more an airplane than a racing yacht. The design experimentation and research in the America’s Cup area, which is the vanguard of the yachting sports, often produced relapses in the pleasure yachts industry. It is sufficient to remember the revolutionary solution of the bulb with winglets (the winning weapon of Australia 2 in Newport 1983) that later found a wide application in the pleasure boats industry, especially in the shallow draft fins. Today, the adoption of these new and sophisticated catamarans, induced fluid dynamic research and design solutions mainly coming from aeronautical technology. Their application in other racing yachts and mainly in the recreational boats industry, however, appears much more difficult. Therefore new scenarios are showing up, where it may be foreseen from one side the development of a new kind of boat and on the other side the birth of a new sport halfway between a sailing regatta and the competition between aircraft.

How these new materials can match the beauty, life and strength of the old materials is an issue that a yacht designer has to verify before using them on his project. Different requirements on using light weight materials are based also on the kind of yacht we are working on it ; displacement yachts are for sure different for high speed yachts but anyway a material for an interior has to be first of all attractive and distinguish. Exploring this new world of the light weight material on the yachts market is a updating challenge that a yacht designer has to keep in mind. During the speech we will explore and compare some “old” materials and “new” materials showing advantages and disadvantages of some of them.

Giovanni Ceccarelli

Giovanni Ceccarelli nato a Ravenna il 14-01-1961 d ivi residente sposato, un figlio.Ingegnere laureato a Bologna , è titolare della Ceccarelli Yacht Design Engineeringunodegli studi più vecchio con soluzione di continuità in Italia legato alla progettazione nellanautica da diporto. Attività professionale avviata dal padre ing. Epaminonda Ceccarelli negli anni cinquanta. Oltre 1000 imbarcazioni navigano nel mondo realizzate in serie ed in one off. Lo studio si occupa  della progettazione nella sua globalità dallo stileall’architettura navale, interni e strutture, ha collaborato con cantieri in Italia ed all’esteroSpagna-Inghilterra – PoloniSvizzera-Russia e Turchia sia per la grande serie che per i cantieri artigianali. Giovanni Ceccarelli stato principal designer per due sfide di CoppaAmerica : nel 2003 in Nuova Zelanda con Mascalzone Latino e nel 2007 a Valencia con+39 challenge. Dal 2012 al 2014 ha ricoperto il ruolo di direttore dell’ingegneria nel progetto di rimozione del relitto della Costa Concordia oltre ad essere uno dei tre principali progettisti.Giovanni Ceccarelli e lo studio lavorano anche in ambito dell’ingegneria costiera ed offshore con progettazione di porti ed infrastrutture. Giovanni con i suo progetti in ambito regate veliche ha vinto 10 titoli del mondo IOR ed IMS oltre a numerosi titoli italiani e detiene il record della 100 miglia del Garda con Dimore del Garda. Si è dedicato anche all’ insegnamento in master allo IED Venezia/Roma – ISYE Ravenna che Universitario cattedra a contratto presso la facoltà d’Ingegneria Aerospaziale sede di Forlì. Attualmente ricopre il ruolo di presidente di As.Pro.Na.Di è membro ordinario di SNAME. ABSTRACT Design ed ambiente L’ambiente è il più grande patrimonio che l’uomo ha a disposizione, come tale deve essere rispettato. Il designer deve avere la coscienza progettare e lavorare in questa direzione. E’ una educazione che deve partire dalle scuole ed essere tra gli elementi fondamentali da tenere in considerazione. AS.PRO.NA.DI è stata da sempre stata attenta all’etica della progettazione ed al rispetto dell’ambiente. La nautica da diporto è svago, sport ed anche lavoro, l’acqua è il teatro e l’uomo con il suo mezzo è l’attore. Il rispetto dell’ambiente nel design ha diverse aree di ricerca e progettazione che sono in evoluzione:
  • idrodinamica ed aerodinamica dello scafo
  • propulsione
  • design degli esterni e negli interni.
  • materiali e processi costruttivi
  • In ultimo pensare anche che al fine ciclo
Il periodo di crisi economica è stato positivo in relazione ad una progettazione che è andata sempre più in questa direzione di una maggiore integrazione con l’ambiente, che negli anni del boom nautico era stata in parte persa. Rispetto dell’ambiente vuole dire in conclusione innovare guardando comunque al passato inteso come esperienza e si traduce anche in migliori performance.

Simone Bartesaghi

Simone Bartesaghi is a CFD engineer and yacht designer. The academic background include a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering, specific in Computational Fluid Dynamics, at Politecnico di Milano and a Master in Yacht Design at Politecnico di Milano and Università degli Studi di Genova.As a CFD engineer, before the Ph.D career, he was in charge for RANS hydro analysis of new design VOR70 CAMPER/EmiratesTeamNewZealand for Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012, 2nd overall and 24h speed record.Other experience as consultant include simulations for 2013 Little America’s Cup, TP52 Class, yacht and mega yacht industry. ABSTRACT Not only for top class racing yacht : CFD applications for 1001 Vela Regatta. The topic of the presentation is about the application of complex numerical simulations, extensively used in Volvo Ocean Race and America’s Cup campaigns, for the research & development of small dinghies. In particular, the regatta 1001 Vela per l’Università gives the opportunity to test these tools. R3-Class skiff from MYD 2009 was taken into account for the first campaign of hydro and aero simulations. Here, different boat speed and crew positions were tested with also different sails trims to find out an optimum for given conditions. CFDwasalso appliedtodesigndaggerboard wingandT-rudderwingforthe MYDmoth. Here, different configurations were tested to find out a starting foil and planform for stable flight conditions.

Consultant and speaker at specialized courses on the use of composite materials in the field of rail transport at Ansaldo Breda of Pistoia, in the field of caravans & campers at Laika in Tavarnelle FI, in the field of RHIB at Arimar – Ravenna. Specialized in the design of small pleasure boats, FRB, RHIB and small work boats and small transport passengers with underwater viewing .
